Tide's Barron bounces back from injury

The field was wide open for Barron, a significant catch out of St. Paul's in Mobile among Alabama coach Nick Saban's top-ranked recruiting class. He was an outstanding running back in high school. Some projected him as a tight end or wide receiver. Others felt he could play linebacker or safety.

"When I was coming in, coach Saban told me I could play any position I wanted to, but he felt like my natural position would be safety," Barron said earlier in training camp. "So I just went with it."

The light bulb didn't exactly click on immediately for the 6-foot-2, 218-pound senior when his freshman training camp opened. Barron started at strong safety on the national championship team in 2009. He led the SEC with seven interceptions and was second on the team with 76 tackles.
