Asthma May Be Related to Electromagnetic Exposure In Utero
Asthma cases may be related to the electromagnetic fields that women are exposed to while pregnant.

Reuters reported that Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine published a study that suggested exposure to low levels of electromagnetic radiation like that experienced by those using hair dryers, coffee grinders, vacuum cleaners and fluorescent light bulbs could contribute to children’s asthma.

It’s also been reported by Reuters that this study has been rebuffed by critics. Patricia McKinney is professor of pediatric epidemiology at the University of Leeds in Britain, and she told Reuters, "The strong conclusions drawn from this paper that magnetic field exposure in pregnancy increases the risk of asthma in offspring cannot be justified based on the evidence provided in the publication."

Meanwhile, study leader Li, told U.S. News and World Report, "If EMFs [electromagnetic fields] truly increase risk as we have shown here, because of the ubiquitous exposure to EMFs the public health risk is serious."

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America reported that 60 million Americans experience asthma and allergies.
