David Hendricks: Company with global outlook moving to S.A.

David Hendricks: Company with global outlook moving to S.A.
GreenStar Products Inc. wants to light the world.

The Boerne-based company that is moving its headquarters and U.S. manufacturing facility to San Antonio as one of CPS Energy's “new energy economy” partners is truly international.

GreenStar dates to a meeting in Milan, Italy, in July 2009 where the founders met. It's in the second phase of investment, and money is coming from places like Venezuela and Mexico. The company has divided the world into four markets — the United States/Canada, Latin America, India and Europe — and plans to sell to nearly every corner of the globe. It already manufactures in India as well.

The company was founded after a meeting in Milan between Boerne businessman Paul Duran (now GreenStar CEO and president) and Chuck Chakravarty, (now GreenStar's chief operating officer) a native of India who was living in Poland at the time.

The company basically combines technologies from Philips Lumileds Lighting Co. of California and Texas Instruments Inc. of Dallas with its own patents to manufacture two basic product lines: indoor and outdoor lights.

In agreeing to move its headquarters to San Antonio from Boerne, GreenStar initially will make at least 25,000 LED (light-emitting diode) streetlights in San Antonio for the city's streets.

The LED streetlights use 60 percent less energy than standard sodium lights. That energy savings can rise to 80 percent when a microprocessor is added that can dim or brighten the lights based on traffic and ambient light sensors. The lights are designed to last 12 to 15 years, cutting maintenance costs.

The sensors, which can detect colors, and microprocessors in the lights can communicate with other streetlights, like networks. The lights therefore eventually could be used for commercial security and law enforcement purposes, Chakravarty said. Remotely operated cameras could be plugged into USB outlets on light poles.

Its indoor lighting products are for warehouses, factories and parking garages.

The current GreenStar staff of 17 people in Boerne will move later this year to its new headquarters and plant at Alamo Downs Business Park in Northwest San Antonio, increasing its staff initially to more than 30. The company will be hiring sales personnel and electrical and test technicians.

After the company was founded by Duran and Chakravarty, the second round of investors included the Venezuelan family of Gabriel Senior, now chief financial officer and vice president for business development.

Other individual investors are José Antonio Fernández, chairman of Monterrey-based FEMSA, Mexico's largest beverage company, and Raúl Rodríguez Barocio, a former managing director of the North American Development Bank and now a University of the Incarnate Word professor.

More investment rounds will be needed as the company grows and more production plants are started, Senior said. At some point, the company could go public with a stock offering.

“The whole world of lighting will have to change,” Senior said. “LEDs will become mainstream.” Nations, both developed and developing, will be attracted to LED lighting because it can reduce the need for new power plants, Chakravarty said.

“Goodbye, Thomas Edison,” added Rod Gray, GreenStar executive vice president for sales and marketing. “Hello, LED.”

Soap Bubbles and Other Ways to Drive Off Mosquitoes!

Soap Bubbles and Other Ways to Drive Off Mosquitoes!
Mosquitoes are the deadliest creature on earth. They spread malaria and other deadly diseases and even in the United States where many of those diseases are under control, there is still a threat from West Nile Virus.
The nuisance value of mosquitoes is very high at outdoor events, even disregarding the health threat. So what are the best ways to get rid of mosquitoes at an outdoor event?

There are some approaches that are pretty standard, and some that are downright bizarre - but effective.

Mosquito-Free Yard

First, establish your yard as a mosquito-free zone. Build birdhouses for mosquito-eating birds such as warblers, swallows, and other songbirds. If you are not too creeped out by the concept, try to provide shelters for bats. Try the National Wildlife Federation website which has instructions here. They're the real mosquito feeders (not, incidentally, purple martins which get lots of unwarranted good press from people wanting to sell purple martin birdhouses.

While at it, grow flowers that will attract birds as well as mosquito-eating dragonflies. While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment

Grow plants that naturally repel mosquitoes that includes lemon balm, citronella, catnip, marigolds, rosemary, and geraniums with scented leaves.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs.

Clear your yard of any standing water. In sagging gutters lining the roof, in old used tires lying around, anywhere. If you have a bird bath, change the water regularly. Even a rusty tin can filled with dirty water can hatch a brood of mosquitoes in a few days.

For the same drying-out reasons, you want to keep your grass cut and otherwise handle your yardwork in such a way as to dry out the soil.

Mosquito-Free Outdoor Event Tactics

Next, consider mosquito repellents that have DEET as an ingredient. Lighting a citronella candle or torch reportedly is no better than a regular candle or torch in attracting mosquitoes by producing heat, moisture, and carbon dioxide.

Some people highly recommend spraying the area thoroughly with a Listerine mouthwash solution to drive off mosquitoes.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs.

You can hang sealed, clear plastic bags of water from trees or elsewhere around the yard. It doesn't help with mosquitoes and most other bugs, unfortunately, but for some reason, does repel flies.

Near doors leading into the house, replace your regular bulbs with bug lights, LED lights, or sodium lights which will not attract mosquitoes which follow you indoors. The bulbs emit light on a frequency that do not attract mosquitoes.

Electric bug zappers are a lot of fun and bring back warm and fuzzy memories of those old TV commercials with Vincent Price delightedly watching insects being fried by them, but the fact is that however high the bug body count may, mosquitoes make up only a tiny percentage..

This tops the weird-o-meter list, but it supposedly works. Have the kids blow soap bubbles. Mosquitoes dislike soapy solutions, so encourage the kids to blow soap bubbles to their little heart's content. The trick is how long will they keep at it? As a perhaps more practical alternative, try leaving out dishes of water-soap solution.

It’s Still the Economy, Stupid

It’s Still the Economy, Stupid
Fourteen million Americans remain out of work, a waste of our greatest resource. The 42nd president has more than a dozen ideas on how to attack the jobs crisis.

Bill Clinton
14 WAYS TO PUT AMERICA BACK TO WORK

Next week in Chicago, the Clinton Global Initiative will focus on America for the first time, inviting business and political leaders to make specific commitments in support of the former president’s jobs blueprint, which he details below.
1. SPEED THE APPROVALS

Harry Hopkins had nowhere near the rules and regulations we have now. (In 1933, Hopkins’s Civil Works Administration put 4 million to work in a month.) I don’t blame the people in the White House for problems in getting shovel-ready projects off the ground; sometimes it takes three years or more for the approval process. We should try to change this: keep the full review process when there are real environmental concerns, but when there aren’t, the federal government should be able to give a waiver to the states to speed up start times on construction projects. We gave states waivers to do welfare reform, so by the time I signed the bill, 43 of the 50 states had already implemented their own approaches. We need to look at that.
2. CASH FOR STARTUPS

If you start a business tomorrow, I can give you all the tax credits in the world, but since you haven’t made a nickel yet, they’re of no use to you. President Obama came in with a really good energy policy, including an idea to provide both a tax credit for new green jobs and for startup companies, to allow the conversion of the tax credit into its cash equivalent for every employee hired. Then last December, in the tax-cut compromise,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. the Republicans in Congress wouldn’t agree to extend this benefit because they said,While many consumers have switched from Led down light traditional filament light bulbs to compact fluorescent light bulbs, “This is a spending program, not a tax cut.Use LED light bulbs in Book scanner utility areas, such as hallways and basements, to reduce power consumption while not sacrificing light quality in the most lived in areas of your house. We’re only for tax cuts.” It was a mistake. The cash incentive worked. On the day President Obama took office, the U.S.While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment had less than 2 percent of the world market in manufacturing the high-powered batteries for hybrid or all-electric cars. On the day of the congressional elections in 2010, thanks in large part to the cash—incentive policy, we had 20 percent of global capacity, with 30 new battery plants built or under construction, 16 of them in Michigan, which had America’s second—highest unemployment rate. We have to convince the Republican Congress that this is a good thing. If this incentive structure can be maintained, it’s estimated that by 2015 we’ll have 40 percent of the world’s capacity for these batteries.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. We could get lots of manufacturing jobs in the same way. I could write about this until the cows come home.
Attacking the Jobs Crisis

When I was president, the economy benefited because information technology penetrated every aspect of American life. More than one quarter of our job growth and one third of our income growth came from that. Now the obvious candidate for that role today is changing the way we produce and use energy. The U.S. didn’t ratify the Kyoto accords, of course, because Al Gore and I left office, and the next government wasn’t for it. They were all wrong. Before the financial meltdown, the four countries that will meet their Kyoto greenhouse-gas emission targets were outperforming America with lower unemployment, more new business formation, and less income inequality.

Researchers create a smaller, flexible LED

Researchers create a smaller, flexible LED
University of Miami professor at the College of Engineering, Jizhou Song, has helped design an light-emitting diode (LED) light that uses an array of LEDs 100 times smaller than conventional LEDs. The new device has flexibility, maintains lower temperature and has an increased life-span over existing LEDs. The findings are published online by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Incandescent bulbs are not very efficient, most of the power they use is converted into heat and only a small fraction of the power gets converted to light. Since LEDs reduce energy waste and present an alternative to conventional bulbs.

In this study, the scientists focused on improving certain features of LED lights, like size,While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment flexibility and temperature.Under efforts of led spotlight boosting the viability of LED luminaires, many companies are expanding high-power selections. Song's role in the project was to analyze the thermal management and establish an analytical model that reduces the temperature of the device.

"The new model uses a silicon substrate, novel etching strategies, a unique layout and innovative thermal management method," says Song, co-author of the study. "The combination of these manufacturing techniques allows the new design to be much smaller and keep lower temperatures than current LEDs using the same electrical power."

In the future, the researchers would also like to make the device stretchable, so that Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs.it can be used on any surface, such as deformable display monitors and biomedical devices that adapt to the curvilinear surfaces of the human body.

Abstract
Properties that can now be achieved with advanced, blue indium gallium nitride light emitting diodes (LEDs) lead to their potential as replacements for existing infrastructure in general illumination, with important implications for efficient use of energy. Further advances in this technology will benefit from reexamination of the modes for incorporating this materials technology into lighting modules that manage light conversion, extraction, and distribution, in ways that minimize adverse thermal effects associated with operation, with packages that exploit the unique aspects of these light sources. We present here ideas in anisotropic etching, microscale device assembly/integration, and module configuration that address these challenges in unconventional ways. Various device demonstrations provide examples of the capabilities, including thin,The FTP and Web tests were r4購入 also close, but the U600 achieved slightly faster FTP download speeds. Most importantly, when I compared head-to-head results in individual test rounds, flexible lighting “tapes” based on patterned phosphors and large collections of small light emitters on plastic substrates. Quantitative modeling and experimental evaluation of heat flow in such structures illustrates one particular, important aspect of their operation: small, distributed LEDs can be passively cooled simply by direct thermal transport through thin-film metallization used for electrical interconnect, providing an enhanced and scalable means to integrate these devices in modules for white light generation.

Oregon is a great place to race. Energy Events organizes the race.

The weekend started with packet pick-up and Fit Right NW Sport and Fitness Show. It was an excellent expo with great shopping for any running gear. One booth was featuring Knuckle Lights, bright LED headlamps for your hands. They would be perfect for the Hood to Coast/Portland to Coast Relay. I'd suggest a different layout for packet pick-up in the future, as it was confusing about where to go in the Expo to first get your bib number and then pick up your shirt and goodie bag.

Unfortunately, the half marathon and Freedom 5K shirts were in cotton and not in technical fabric, which only the marathon finishers got. But they are very sharp looking shirts. In the case of Cree a significant led light bulbs amount of their LED sales come from the purchase of Cotco whose primary focus was on moving message panels used in displays/electronic bill boards.  Race organizer Brian Davis had hoped that every racer would get technical fabric shirts.

The park is a very scenic start/finish point, with the Vancouver Farmer's Market in full swing along the western side of the park. Bands entertained from the bandstand and there are park benches and cozy lawns for relaxing. Unfortunately, our spring rain continued on Saturday, but Sunday saw only earlymorning showers, ending by 9 am. Event sponsors had booths and there was a beer garden, with a free beer for every finisher.

The full marathon had a time limit of seven hours and the half marathon of five hours. There were approximately 1000 in the full marathon and 2500 in the half marathon. The full marathon started at 7 a.m. and headed west to Vancouver Lake and Frenchman's Bar before returning to downtown Vancouver. The half marathon started at 8:30 a.m. and met up with the full marathon in downtown Vancouver to complete the rest of the race on the same course.

This arrangement worked well. The racers were kept separate for about a kilometer on opposite sides of the street, which prevented walkers from getting in the way of the faster marathon runners. Then when they were on the same paths, there were few problems with runners getting blocked or bumping into slower racers.

It also was enjoyable for walkers to always be in the middle of the race, rather than being all alone at the back, followed by the course sweepers. Mile markers were very visible for both the full and the half marathon. The 250U actually had a slightly higher マジコンds average upload speed—.96Mbps up as compared to the U600's .94Mbps Water, sports drink and porta-johns were provided every two miles and had short lines by the second set of potties.

The half marathon route is very scenic, including the fun Uptown Vancouver area, Fort Vancouver National Historic Monument and Officer's Row, Pearson Air Park, and the Vancouver Renaissance Trail along the Columbia River. Two areas of the riverfront trail are flooded now and there were short detours. The half marathon route was far more scenic than the Portland Marathon's 2010 half marathon route, which is mostly on Front Avenue through the industrial area.

The finish area was well stocked with bagels, fruit, Jamba Juice shakes, and G2 sports drink, with access only to the finishers. But then you can exit to the park and enjoy the displays, amble over to the beer garden, find a park bench to recover on, or visit the Farmer's Market booths for food. It was an excellent venue for a race.

Volkswagen celebrates 35 years of the Golf GTI with Edition 35

Volkswagen celebrates 35 years of the Golf GTI with Edition 35
It has been 35 years since the folks at Volkswagen decided they needed to come up with something to get younger buyers excited about the company's Golf line. That something turned out to be a performance tuned version of the then boxy looking Golf that was called the GTI. The special edition became something special to Volkswagen fans and was a marketing homerun. In 1976, there were 5,000 GTIs planned, today production is approaching 2 million units. Now, some 35 years later, Volkswagen is coming out with the Golf GTI Edition 35 to celebrate the GTI's success. The replacement lighting we feel is far led downlight superior to that of the LED lighting.Golf GTI Edition 35

The new Golf GTI Edition 35 in European trim has an impressive 235 hp under the hood which is 25 hp more than the run-of-the-mill GTI. All that horsepower pushes the Edition 35 to a top speed of 153 mph.

Under the hood there is a turbocharged direct-injection 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine with intercooling. The GTI engine is controlled by a fully electronic engine management system with E-Gas. The engine’s pistons are equipped with reinforced gudgeon pins. The connecting rod was also designed with greater strength, so that it can reliably transfer high torque to the crankshaft. In the case of Cree a significant led light bulbs amount of their LED sales come from the purchase of Cotco whose primary focus was on moving message panels used in displays/electronic bill boards.  The cylinder block was reinforced to handle the extremely high engine forces that occur.

The engine’s power is transferred via either a manual 6-speed gearbox or an optional 6-speed DSG transmission. For 35 years, the GTI has been driven via the front axle.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. There, the standard XDS electronic differential lock now ensures that the rubber on the tires remains there and does not end up on the street. Moreover, XDS significantly improves handling properties. Technically, XDS is a functional extension of the electronic differential lock (EDS) that is integrated in the ESP system. As soon as the electronics detects that the front wheel at the inside of the bend is excessively unloaded during fast driving, the ESP hydraulics build up braking pressure at this wheel to restore optimal traction. That is, XDS acts as a transverse differential lock that compensates for the typical understeer of front-wheel drive vehicles during quick driving through bends. The result is the driving behavior of the GTI is significantly more precise and neutral.

Like all GTIs, the Edition 35 is equipped with a sport suspension and the body sits 15 mm lower than on a conventional Golf. Working up front is the familiar MacPherson suspension with helical springs and telescoping dampers. At the rear, an innovative multi-link suspension ensures that the ESP system seldom needs to be activated.

Visually, the Golf GTI Edition 35 can be recognized by its new bumper design in front, which can be optionally equipped with bi-xenon headlights plus cornering and LED daytime running lights. The car’s aerodynamics were improved by winglets positioned at lower outboard areas in front, and the mid-section of the front spoiler was kept in black. On the car’s sides there are glossy black mirror housings, side sill extensions in body colour and the "35" edition badge on the front wings that identify the anniversary model. All Golf GTI Edition 35 cars are also equipped with smoked LED rear lights, an LED-illuminated license plate at the rear and smoked rear windows.

There are standard 18-inch "Watkins Glen" alloy wheels for the Golf GTI Edition 35 fitted with 225/40 R18 tires and are available in one light-colored version and one dark-colored version. Also new to the program and available on all Golf GTIs are optional 19-inch "Glendale" alloy wheels with 225/35 tires. The five spokes on this wheel are painted black, while the rim flange itself is machine-polished.

If you are in Europe and lucky enough to buy a new GTI you can get it in white, black, red and silver which have been the classic GTI colors for 35 years. There are also 3 monochrome colors including “Candy White", "Tornado Red" and "Black",The settlement resolves the commonwealth's claims fluorescent lights that EarthTronics Inc., which sells mercury-containing compact fluorescent light bulbs plus 4 metallic paints "Carbon Steel Grey", "Reflex Silver", "Shadow Blue" and "United Grey" and in the pearl effect colors "Blue Graphite" and "Deep Black".

Inside, the gear shift grip comes in the classic golf ball look of the first generation GTI, new decorative strips in the cockpit area and the door trim panels, special door sill plates with worked-in "35" logo, safety belts with red stripes and a "35" integrated in the front head restraints of the top sport seats. In addition, there is an entirely new type of upholstery for the Golf GTI Edition 35 in "Favo" / "San Remo" pattern. The inside lateral seat supports and front parts of the head restraints are designed in sophisticated "Vienna" leather in "Titan Black". Meanwhile, the centre seat panels have active-breathing microfibers and their styling matches the legendary honeycomb pattern of the GTI radiator grille. The "35" logo appears on the backs of the seats, and all decorative seams of this seat design are in "Flash Red".I transferred files over FTP, downloaded Web pages ds マジコン using curl, and ran the speed tester at speedtest.net. Also always in red: decorative seams around the 3-spoke sport steering wheel, the hand brake and gear shift trim as well as the borders of the floor mats.

If you live in the U.S. of A., don't head down to the VW store because you'll be disappointed. There is no word on if or when the GTI will make an appearance on America’s Main Streets.

Hudson walkway: From rail to trail

Hudson walkway: From rail to trail
There's just something about big old bridges.

Like works of art, they are studied and admired. Bridges also overcome major obstacles like long distances, uneven terrain and tidal currents, so they are engineering marvels, as well.

In the late 1800s, the hilly shores and swift waters of the Hudson River presented such obstacles at a time when manufacturing was booming in the Northeast. No bridges spanned the Hudson River south of Albany and a better link was needed to get coal from the mines of Pennsylvania to the fuel-hungry factories of New England.

After numerous efforts to put together financing and come up with a solid design, construction began in 1873 on a 200-foot-high span over the river in the Mid-Hudson Valley,In the case of Cree a significant led light bulbs amount of their LED sales come from the purchase of Cotco whose primary focus was on moving message panels used in displays/electronic bill boards.  connecting Poughkeepsie on the Hudson's east shore with the Highlands of Ulster County. Economic and engineering challenges stalled the project several times, but it was finally completed in 1888. When it finally opened to the first rail traffic in 1889, the 1.28-mile, steel truss system was the longest bridge in the world.

Known as the Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge, it quickly became a vital rail freight artery. During World War II, when it was painted black to shield it from potential Nazi bombers, it carried as many as 3,500 rail cars each day over the Hudson.

Over the next 30 years, with so many other freight options available, its importance declined. A fire on the Poughkeepsie side in 1974 left its rails mangled and rendered the bridge unusable. When the bankrupt Penn Central Railroad couldn't pay for repairs, the freight traffic ended up being permanently rerouted.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. In a state of slow deterioration, the once-prominent rail link had become a rusting shadow of its great past. By 1991, the U.S.The replacement lighting we feel is far led downlight superior to that of the LED lighting. Coast Guard, concerned it could be a navigational hazard for river vessels, called for the demolition of the century-old bridge.

That threat of demolition is what many credit with launching the Mid-Hudson community effort to save the structure and convert it to a giant sidewalk in the clouds. Some had the audacity to dream it could become a tourist attraction drawing thousands annually, bolster the local economy and eventually connect the hiking and biking trails that snake through Ulster and Dutchess counties.

Nearly 20 years later, the dreams of those few who formed the nonprofit organization Walkway Over The Hudson, are a reality. After acquiring ownership of the dormant structure in 1998 and years of planning and raising funds for the $38.8 million transformation, the old rail bridge has been reborn as a state historical park,I transferred files over FTP, downloaded Web pages ds マジコン using curl, and ran the speed tester at speedtest.net. towering above the majestic Hudson River at one of its most scenic locations.

Organizers hoped the bridge could attract up to 250,000 annual visitors. "Our mission now is to fulfill the promise of the walkway -- there's a lot of work to be done," she said, describing extensive plans to enhance the walkway experience and keep the Mid-Hudson residents coming back, spending time there while attracting new visitors from other places, including the Capital Region.

On a recent Saturday afternoon, all that seemed necessary to draw a crowd was a gentle breeze and little sunshine to show off the marvelous river views, the same views that inspired the Roosevelts and Vanderbilts to build their estates in nearby Hyde Park. Hundreds filled the walkway, coming on from both directions. Most were walkers, joined by some bicyclists, joggers, babies in strollers and adults in wheelchairs. Some would venture out just part of the way before turning around. Others marched across from end to end.

Guerrieri breeezes to Indy Lights win at Milwaukee
Esteban Guerrieri started from the pole in his Firestone Indy Lights debut at the St. Petersburg season opener and at Long Beach three weeks later.

A runner-up finish on the Long Beach street circuit just wasn't satisfying for the 26-year-old Argentinian. Neither was second place in the Firestone Freedom 100 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, in which he charged from fifth in the No. 7 Lucas Oil/Sam Schmidt Motorsports car in his first oval race. So the victory from the pole position in the David Hobbs 100 at the Milwaukee Mile quenched his thirst – for now.

"The car was really awesome for the whole race," Guerrieri said. "We just had to keep going at the same pace. Guerrieri led every lap on the historic oval and led teammate Josef Newgarden across the start-finish line by 5.In the case of Cree a significant led light bulbs amount of their LED sales come from the purchase of Cotco whose primary focus was on moving message panels used in displays/electronic bill boards. 5012sec in becoming the fourth different winner in five races this season. Guerrieri accomplished the feat without radio communication with his spotter or trackside crew.

"I realized on lap 40 that nobody was talking to me," he laughed. "I was like, 'Hey, this spotter is sleeping. I was looking to the numbers on the pole in the infield with the positions and the laps. So that was my big friend."

Guerrieri also closed the championship points gap on the front-running Newgarden to 13 entering the Sukup 100 at the Iowa Speedway on June 25.

"It was a great points scoring weekend for the whole team, especially for us," said Newgarden, 20, of Nashville, Tenn., who has won twice this season. "We've talked about being consistent every weekend here throughout the rest of the year. It's great for the team to get a win with Esteban. He did a great job so I'm really happy for the team."

There are eight races (four ovals and road/street circuits each) remaining.

"We just got to keep doing this every weekend," Newgarden continued.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. "Hopefully, we can get back up to the top step, but if we're scoring points and getting podiums we're in good shape."

Jorge Goncalvez advanced from the seventh starting position to finish third in the No. 4 Belardi Auto Racing Special – his first podium and the team's first (co-owner Brian Belardi is from Grafton, Wis.).

Bryan Clauson overtook the No. 2 TMR-Tuvacol-Xtreme Coil Drilling car of Gustavo Yacaman on lap 87 to finish fourth. He finished ninth in the Traxxas USAC Silver Crown race and 16th in the USAC Mopar National Midget series race after starting third. He continues to lead the Midget standings.

Victor Carbone finished sixth, moving up four spots in the No. 3 Nevoni/Sam Schmidt Motorsports car, and David Ostella was seventh in the No. 16 Global Precast Team Jensen entry. Stefan Wilson finished eighth in the No. 5 Andretti Autosport car.

Three cars were eliminated in a Turn 4 incident as they came to the green flag.

Girl Talk, Big Boi Ring In NYC's Inaugural Governors Ball

The line-up may have been small but the sound was still big. Girl Talk, Big Boi, Pretty Lights, Empire of the Sun and more rocked NYC's Governors Island on Saturday (June 18) for the inaugural Governors Ball Music Festival.

The two stage set-up and limited number of artists ensured no overlapping sets and saved attendees from musical "Sophie's Choice" type decisions: Big Boi or Empire of the Sun, Girl Talk or Pretty Lights?

Fittingly, Empire of the Sun hit the southside "Gotham" stage just as the sun was setting. The Australian duo, fresh off a well-received Coachella appearance, wowed the packed Governors Island crowd with a show that wouldn't have seemed out of place on Broadway. In the case of Cree a significant led light bulbs amount of their LED sales come from the purchase of Cotco whose primary focus was on moving message panels used in displays/electronic bill boards.  They kept up a tribal outer-space aesthetic with the help of eight back-up dancers, several groovy costume changes and a ceaseless heart-rattling bass.

Girl Talk took the northside "Big Apple" stage after full dark and turned the festival into his own private dance party. The mash-up artist, clad in his trademark headband, led a chant of "Girl Talk" before launching into the first track off of his "new" album, "All Day." The set featured a healthy dose of new musical mixtures, and enough toilet paper launched into the crowd to service the dozens of port-a-potties surrounding the Island.

YLighting Launches Metalarte, an Exclusive Lighting Collection from Spain

YLighting announces the launch of an exclusive lighting collection from Metalarte. The collection, which is made in Barcelona, Spain, includes modern pendant lights, chandeliers, wall sconces, ceiling lights, table and floor lamps and outdoor lighting. YLighting is the only online retailer in the United States to sell Metalarte.

Metalarte, whose origins trace back to 1932, produces traditional and avant-garde lighting. This world-renowned global company began in a simple metalworking shop at Madrazo Street in Barcelona, Spain, where its founder, Antonio Riera, had a unique passion for bright, appropriate lighting-something unusual in a country that used 125 volts until the beginning of the 1960s.

Today Metalarte combines a pride about its pioneer past and its new state-of-the-art factory and manufacturing abilities. In the past year, Metalarte has released several new designs, including:

Copacabana collection designed by Jaime Haydon. The Copacabana collection includes a modern pendant light, chandelier, wall light and floor lamp. The collection's diffuser-made of porcelain and available in black, white or copper-gives these lamps their unique personality.

Mate Floor Lamp designed by Geert Koster. Mate is an indoor/outdoor modern floor lamp that has a simple modern structure made from white metal and a translucent polyethylene diffuser. Mate's 118 inch cord means you can move it easily throughout your outdoor space. The cord can be neatly wrapped onto the "hook" on the base of the lamp.

Frida Out Floor Lamp designed by Serraydelarocha. Frida is an indoor/outdoor floor lamp formed by using two polyethylene cones in white. Each cone houses its own light source and can be independently switched on and off. Frida is available in a compact fluorescent or compact fluorescent and LED version.

Tanuki GR Pendant Light light designed by Itamar Burnstein. Made with a spun-aluminum shade, the Tanuki GR Pendant provides direct and indirect ambient illumination. The clever shade moves vertically to direct the light up or down.

Luxury locked away

RESTAURANT review: Stormy start to a meal... Jill Turton at Yorebridge House, Bainbridge. Pictures by Gary Longbottom.

What would you expect to pay for dinner in “Britain’s most romantic hotel” (according to some travel website)? £44.50 before drinks and service feel about right?

It better be good. Of course, the location on the edge of Bainbridge is a five-star starter in anybody’s book with the brooding summit of Addlebrough due south and the clipped lawns of the sandstone mansion flanked by the rivers Bain and Ure. Soak it all up in the outdoor hot tub, winter or summer, if that’s your thing.

Peering into the high Georgian windows of the formal dining room, it certainly has the luxury boutique look: big lamps, chunky candlesticks, rococo mirrors and modish deep aubergine walls, a console table down the centre carries a couple of Chinese style lanterns flanked by artificial palms. Through a hatch we can spy a brigade of young lads in the kitchen, out front it’s smiley local girls dressed in black.

We should be there, too, but unfortunately we’ve been locked out. And it’s windy. And it’s raining. We ring the bell, bang on the door, knock on the window, try round the back, wave frantically at the tables of bemused diners feeling like Bob Cratchit watching the rich folk gorging themselves. Finally, I burst in on a kitchen door and help is summoned. Not very romantic.

The maitre d’ is on his knees, or possibly even lower, in apology. “So sorry; never happened before in 10 years. So sorry; someone must have dropped the latch on the way out.” The door bell? “Oh, sorry, no, it’s an antique bell, it doesn’t work.” Two complimentary glasses of champagne did work. Apology accepted.

Thc champagne arrived with our first taster, a slate arranged with tapenade bread sticks, goats’ cheese dip and little spoons of crab mousse, pea puree and caviar. All very nice. Then followed a shot glass of mushroom veloute topped with a thyme foam. Very nice again. With a couple of glasses of Riesling alongside, this was beginning to look promising.

Our two starters were tartare of black bream and apple puree and a plate of scallops with pork belly and truffle. The latter was especially good. Nicely seared scallops with a soft, rich and soothing slice of pork belly with slicks of carrot puree well infused with truffle. Scrumptious.

The uncooked black bream had been pressed into a ring mould and topped with beetroot and a few salad leaves. It was fresh and light and clean tasting but the decorative snail trail of apple puree round the perimeter of the slate (they like their slates at Yorebridge) was so minimal it served next to no purpose either as taste or texture.

Far more generously, the fillet steak that followed was a well-seasoned hunk and as precisely cooked as precisely requested: the rare side of medium rare. It sat on strips of celeriac and came with a herby mix of minced mushrooms. Fillets of grey mullet were also satisfying served with a razor shell filled with cockles and mussels.

At dessert we went for the Yorebridge Lemon Meringue, an unnecessarily deconstructed lemon meringue pie that was a lemon tart with meringue alongside. The peanut butter parfait came in a cone shot through with a couple of wafers and a scoop of chocolate sorbet. Neither hit the heights of the preceding courses but were perfectly competent.

With three glasses of wine and service, we’d clocked up £120. It had better be good and it was. The room was glowing, the table service just right. Dale Exelby, the head chef fed us well – his cooking is well judged, well presented and (apple puree excepted) well free of all those bits and bobs too many average chefs indulge in to make out they are great artists.

So while the overnight guests headed for their starched sheets and power showers, we headed for the silent lanes of Wensleydale. Like our arrival, there was no-one to see us out, say goodbye or thank us. Pity. We crept out of the front door, dropping the latch as we went.

Create illusion of space in your small home

It's just how you use your interior decoration skills to give an illusion of more surface area. By using the right kind of furniture and the current amount of lighting, one can provide an illusion of space. Even, colours of rooms for that matter, can do the deed. Here are some tips to decorate you little room to make it look both spacious and pretty.

1. The right kind of lighting in rooms can help create illusion of space. When living in a relatively smaller room, avoid using ceiling lights. These light up such that they tend to cut the height of the room. Use lamps such that they do can eliminate shadows. Natural lighting is another great option. Keep your windows open during the day, as this will create a look of more space. If you can, try varying the sizes of the lamps used in the room. This will add a feeling of more space.

2. Furniture are a pivotal part of home decor. Using the wrong furniture can make your home look cramped. Avoid bulky furniture. For instance, large sofas, big chairs etc. are a no-no. Instead, furnitures like an ottoman (both multipurpose as it serves as a seating, a coffee table and a foot-rest) can be best used for small rooms. If you want a sofa for the TV room, invest in one which has a bed as an extension. In this way you can use it whenever and fold it when not required. Always place the bulkiest furniture of your home against the longest wall. Avoid placing furniture near to pathways, this can be inconvenient. In case you have wooden trunks which have an ancient feel to it, decorate them well. You can do this by either placing funky table lamps or vases on it, or by covering it with a prettily-printed cloth. You can use it as a seating too.

3. Built-ins furniture is a must for small homes. For instance, having built-in cabinets is quite normal for houses be it small or big. You can have drawers, bookshelves which are also built-in. The idea is to avoid as many furniture on the floor space.

Recommendation Letters From Swampscott High

Recommendation Letters From Swampscott High
For over twenty years, I’ve been teaching a variety of subjects, from English to TV Production to Media Literacy. I’ve worked with students aiming for careers in politics, film, television, advertising, teaching, computers and so many other fields. But until I met Ben Smith, I had never met a student who, at age 17, would tell me with a straight face that his career goal was to be a philosopher.

The thing is,You can easily say that it is a passion or a way to express yourself. So what's the story? Ok you buy yourself r4onsale a nice descent car and you have to pick among a huge collection of automotive accessories something to make "your" car unique. I believe him – and I believe in him. I am happy to give him the highest possible recommendation to you. I say this not simply because he’s the only student I’ve ever met who wants to be a philosopher. It’s not even that he is the brightest student I have ever had, although he may come fairly close. It’s mostly that he is one of the most intellectually curious and deeply reflective students I have ever encountered.

By deeply reflective, I mean that his love of learning extends far beyond most students’ enjoyment of the acquisition of knowledge. He does love the gaining of factual information, but even more than that, he is fascinated by epistemology, by the concept of how we know what we know. This kind of “meta” analysis – thinking about thinking – is far beyond what most high school teachers have time or inclination to promote in this era of genuflection to standardized tests, but Ben’s pure and eager love for challenging intellectual adventures is reflected in something remarkable he has done in the past year. Rather than wait for his guidance counselors (or parents) to tell him what courses to take next, as too many students do, he has sought out and enrolled in as many courses as possible from those teachers who, for whatever reasons of curricular flexibility and/or inclination, inspire this specific kind of intellectual focus at Swampscott High School. As he said to me last spring about Media Literacy,An other advantage of using bluecrystal these bulbs is that they can also work in very cold weather which various other lights are unable to do. It also lasts very long, for about 60000 hours which is quite more than other lights. “This course is about the closest I can find to an actual course in Philosophy.”

In other words, despite Ben’s relatively laid-back demeanor, he has been admirably relentless in his pursuit of intellectual mentors who can stimulate him. And once he finds them, he enthusiastically takes advantage of what he clearly sees as true opportunities for growth. In Media Literacy class, he was an avid, open-minded and engaged audience for challenging films by directors like Truffaut, Godard and Kubrick. In Health and Media class, he and a friend gave the best of the numerous student presentations, filling two one and a half hour periods with video clips and probing questions about atheism, facilitating one of the most lively and intellectually rich student-led class discussions I’ve ever seen.

Like everyone, Ben has weaknesses. I believe they are minor compared to his brilliant mind and potential, but I am trying to be objective and not portray Ben as the second coming. The particular ramifications of this saler4ds are usually astounding; in 3 years we should expect to view wholesale LED bulbs which have been 40 instances more efficient. Therefore, I will say that he does procrastinate at times, especially when it comes to written work. Also, even though his contributions to discussion are extremely thoughtful and certainly more frequent than average, his quiet nature (and his habit of thinking before he speaks) result in his not quite contributing to class discussions as often as I wish he did. In a good high school class discussion, the ideas and opinions fly at high speed, and Ben sometimes sits back and lets other students do most of the talking, at least until the topic really moves him.

But when he does get excited,The best way to justify the cost and savings and to brightcrystal truly see how the transition to LED will impact your business is to do a detailed energy audit of existing conditions and compare them to the energy savings and maintenance costs found on the post-LED retrofit report. he’s wonderful to see and hear. He’s an articulate and smart young man, but he’s also a young man with a lot of deep feelings, and since I’m not sure you’ll necessarily see them in his essay or even in his interview, I want to stress this. He’s not just a good student and a deep thinker. True, his focus may be on a scientific, rather than a spiritual, explanation of the cosmos. He may have a somewhat subdued manner. He may even still believe, as he said last year, that he’s not really interested in sex and love - or did he only say that about sex and not about love? Either way, it struck me as a unique opinion for a 17-year old boy, albeit one I suspect has to do mostly with the fact that for now he has all he can handle dealing with his complex, busy mind.It pays to go to professionals with bestlight a proven track record in LED lighting, a vast selection of excellent quality products from various vendors that live up to their label, and a history of successfully completed projects. I would guess that he will make room for love at some point in his busy life as he matures.

10 Ways to Boost Your Smartphone's Battery Life

10 Ways to Boost Your Smartphone's Battery Life
For all of their power and versatility, smartphones--even the best of them--are cursed with abysmal battery life.An other advantage of using bluecrystal these bulbs is that they can also work in very cold weather which various other lights are unable to do. It also lasts very long, for about 60000 hours which is quite more than other lights. Unless you use your phone very sparingly (and who does that?), you're lucky to make it home at the end of the day with enough juice left in the battery for one more call. But with the right apps and a little insight, you can double your smartphone's battery life--and work (and play) longer than ever before.
Though some phones live a little longer than others on a single charge, all smartphones suffer from the same basic problem: They do too much. Any 3.7-volt battery small enough to fit into your phone's tiny chassis stands no chance of lasting multiple days under a steady workload of running apps, browsing the Web, sending e-mail,An other advantage of using bluecrystal these bulbs is that they can also work in very cold weather which various other lights are unable to do. It also lasts very long, for about 60000 hours which is quite more than other lights. and doing whatever else phones are expected to do. (Oh yeah, making calls.)
Most smartphone batteries today are rated at around 5 watt-hours, meaning that they can deliver a constant charge of 1 watt to the device over a period of 5 hours. If your phone actually uses 1 watt per hour, and you pull it off the charger at 7:00 a.m.Although police doesn't like it very much but one thing is certain, that your car will certainly stand out from the rest lightonsale vehicles on the road You don't have to make something "hardcore"., you can expect it to be dead by lunchtime. So the key to increasing your phone's battery life is to reduce the amount of power the handset uses per hour.

One obvious way to reduce your phone's energy draw is to use it less (yeah, right). A more practical approach is to manage the phone's power consumption by turning off unneeded features and turning down adjustable features. Turning off your phone's radios when you're not using them, reducing the screen's brightness, and killing apps that run in the background are among the tricks that can help your phone's battery last longer. They and other tricks and apps will help extend your phone's overall workday by reducing its moment-to-moment energy requirements.
1. Dim the Screen

You love your smartphone's large, colorful display, but it's the battery's mortal enemy. More than any other component of your phone, the display consumes battery life at a devastating pace. The particular demise with the incandescent bulb bluebright continues calmly yet non-stop and in less as compared to any year or two today the sole goods stocked in stores is going to be lower electricity bulbs, Most phones include an auto-brightness feature that automatically adjusts the screen's brightness to suit ambient lighting levels and system activity. This mode uses less power than constantly running your screen at full brightness would, of course,You want someone that has the experience in LED lighting to guide you to the right product shinebright that is best suited to your project. but you'll get even better results by turning your screen's brightness down to the lowest setting that you can tolerate and leaving it there. Even if you do nothing else suggested in this guide, following this one tip will extend the life of your battery dramatically.
2. Keep the Screen Timeout Short

Under your phone's display settings menu, you should find an option labeled 'Screen Timeout' or something similar. This setting controls how long your phone's screen stays lit after receiving input, such as a tap. Every second counts here, so set your timeout to the shortest available time. On most Android phones, the minimum is 15 seconds. If your screen timeout is currently set to 2 minutes, consider reducing that figure to 30 seconds or less.

42 million displaced by natural disasters in 2010

42 million displaced by natural disasters in 2010
About 42 million people were forced to flee their homes because of natural disasters around the world in 2010,The retrofit process itself can range from a simple count of existing lamps to a brightshine very detailed energy survey, which includes collecting information from your existing lighting, more than double the number during the previous year, experts said Monday.Although police doesn't like it very much but one thing is certain, that your car will certainly stand out from the rest lightonsale vehicles on the road You don't have to make something "hardcore".

One reason for the increase in the figure could be climate change, and the international community should be doing more to contain it, the experts said.

The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre said the increase from 17 million displaced people in 2009 was mainly due to the impact of "mega-disasters" such as the massive floods in China and Pakistan and the earthquakes in Chile and Haiti.

It said more than 90 percent of the disaster displacements were caused by weather-related hazards such as floods and storms that were probably impacted by global warming, but it couldn't say to what extent.

"The intensity and frequency of extreme weather events is increasing, and this trend is only set to continue. With all probability, the number of those affected and displaced will rise as human-induced climate change comes into full force," said Elisabeth Rasmusson, the secretary general of the Norwegian Refugee Council.

The monitoring center and refugee council presented the report at an international conference about climate change and displacement in Oslo.

The number of people displaced last year -- about 42 million -- is roughly the size of Argentina's entire population, and the onslaught of natural disasters so far this year also has been grim.

The March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan left more than 10,000 people dead, some 17,500 missing and about a half-million homeless.

In the United States, tornadoes have wreaked havoc from Alabama to Massachusetts, while floods have inundated states from Montana to Louisiana. In the southwest Missouri city of Joplin, the U.Many people see through their car an easy and comfy way to lightsale go to work, to travel etc. We are talking about transportation and nothing more. Facilities such as a good stereo sound system, climate control and a coffee mug holder are just some things to make driving life easier and much more fun.S.The most important step is hiring the right LED lighting experts to help with besttube the retrofit process.'s deadliest tornado in six decades killed at least 141 people and destroyed more than 8,000 homes in a city of about 50,000 people.

Speaking at the Oslo conference, U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres called the issue of climate-related displacement "the defining challenge of our times" and criticized the international community for lacking the political will to reduce to pace of climate change.

"There is increasing evidence to suggest that natural disasters are growing in frequency and intensity and that this is linked to the longer-term process of climate change," Guterres said.

Asia was the hardest hit region last year, with the largest number of displaced people seen in countries such as India,You can easily say that it is a passion or a way to express yourself. So what's the story? Ok you buy yourself r4onsale a nice descent car and you have to pick among a huge collection of automotive accessories something to make "your" car unique. the Philippines, Bangladesh, Indonesia, China and Pakistan.

In China alone, more than 15 million people were forced to leave their homes following floods, while 11 million people were displaced in Pakistan, the report said. The large floods in India in 2009 also continued to force people to leave their homes in 2010.

"This report provides us with evidence of the extent and urgency of the problem that we cannot ignore. We must increase collaborative efforts to prevent displacement by natural disasters, and do a better job of protecting those displaced," Rasmusson said.
