Liam Fox allegations: Letter from Jim Murphy to David Cameron

There appear to be very significant shortcomings in the scope of the inquiry announced by the MoD.

I am concerned that your judgement of Dr Fox will rest on the initial findings of the MoD-led inquiry announced on Friday.9 Dec 2010 – What would the perfect fluorescent lights be? While any revelations from the inquiry will of course be relevant, there are important questions which I do not believe will be sufficiently addressed by this process. The Secretary of State said on Friday that he had asked the MoD Permanent Secretary to "establish whether there has been any breach of national security or the ministerial code". This is a totally inadequate response to the scale and nature of the charges that the Secretary of State now faces.

To arrive at a meaningful judgement on whether the Ministerial Code has been breached it is necessary to assess all the issues that have been raised.Has anyone had any experience with this led light bulbs light? This course of action is now clearly necessary and I urge you take it immediately.

The Secretary of State said on 15th September in Parliamentary Answers that Mr Werritty had not "not travelled with me on any official overseas visits". The MoD said on 7th October that Mr Werritty "did not attend any official meetings". New evidence suggests otherwise. Dr Fox told me in a conversation on 13th July that the civil service were present at the Dubai meeting on 17th June. Again, available evidence appears to contradict this.

It is essential that we understand why a non-employee of the MoD enjoys the access he does and we need to be certain no commercial gain has arisen from such access. I agree with you when you said that the British people "expect the highest standards of conduct" from politicians. This is an opportunity for you to enforce that sentiment.

In light of the seriousness of these issues and their being in the public interest I am releasing this letter to the media.

French Wins Again In SK Lights At Waterford

Five years ago when Paul French wanted to learn the intricacies of racing a Modified at the Waterford Speedbowl, he turned to one of the best for lessons.

"The man that taught me how to drive here is [former Waterford Speedbowl champion] Jerry Pearl," French said. The lessons have clearly come in handy this year for French, who has proved to be the dominator in the first year of SK Light Modified competition at Waterford.

French, of Andover, won for the third time in four events this year in the 25-lap SK Light Modified feature Saturday.

"We're having a dream season," French said. "This is totally unbelievable. … I've got a really good car under me, good motors, good crew, the best spotter in the business in Mark Bakaj. He is unbelievable. He keeps me so calm. He just directs me as to what to do and keeps my eyes open."

Chris Correll of New London was second and David Webb of New Milford third.

In the only SK Light Modified event at the track he hasn't won this year, French finished third.

Saturday, French inherited the lead after things got chaotic in front of him with 13 laps left.

Second place David Webb made contact with leader Richard Brouwer with 13 laps remaining, sending Brouwer spinning.

Officials put Webb to the rear of the field after the incident, handing French the lead, a position he never gave up the rest of the way.
