Clint Higham, a Good Company alumnus from the late 1980s who went on to found a powerhouse artist management firm in Nashville, Tenn., donated $250,000 worth of state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment to the company. The haul includes dozens of new stationary lights, 12 color-blaster LED units, two of those ultra-fancy moving lights that you see on national tours, 12 new headset microphones and a complete revamp of the speaker system at Roger Rocka's Dinner Theater.

Recently, I heard a popular North Texas newscaster suggest something curious. "If every household would turn off just one 100-watt light bulb, then rolling blackouts could be avoided." The accompanying graphic was of an incandescent light bulb. The statement raised several questions for me and, quite honestly, kept me up well past the 10:12 p.m. declaration.

The first question I had to ask was, "Why do people still have incandescent bulbs in their home?" Have we all not learned that compact fluorescents are better for the environment?

The second had to do with the "100 watt" portion of the statement. Incandescent light bulbs use heat to produce light. This thought led to a final contemplation before I fell asleep. What could this newscaster have said about rolling blackouts and the origins of the power in our homes that would raise cause for concern? To answer this, I had to reflect on the impact that the media has on our everyday lives. How many people kept an eye on the TV set last weekend waiting for impact of hurricane Irene? The media instilled a strong sense of fear about the hurricane which had an overwhelming influence on our societal reaction and anticipation.

So what if our media used these same tactics to impress a similar societal reaction regarding climate change. What if that 10:12 p.m. story had become the leading story on the local news and went something like this:

There's plenty of capacity, he says: "We have 10,000 times more spectrum, 10,000 times more LEDs installed already in the infrastructure. You would agree with me, hopefully, there's no issue of capacity anymore. Welland LED maker energized to hire

After a few months of "very positive" negotiations, CRS signed a five-year contract with Energizer in February.

This week CRS is announcing an agreement has been reached with a national North American retailer to sell those products, packaged in Energizer labels, early next year.
